Life begins after the book is launched! I love that Stan said that. Writing the book is just step one. The ongoing marketing is necessary. I've written 3 books, and they have sold every month since the first one released in April of 2022. The reason for that is the constant marketing I provide. Everything from book signings, podcasts, interviews for radio, emails, social media postings, and on and on. Stan is so spot on. All the best to Stan and Booklaunchers!!!

If I copyright a poem or something short will that protect my pseudonym? Im worried about putting work online and then someone publishing a book before I do under the name I have picked out. Would I just have to publish a book before anyone else if I want to protect my picked out pen name? Or would copyrighting a poem or something small work to protect it first? Im worried someone will take the name to publish books before I publish one. Will copyrighting a small poem work to protect the pseudonym?
Hi, I would be very grateful for some advice please. I'm in the process of publish my first cookbook, and I have obtained printed proof copies of my book from 5 different professional book printing companies, including Amazon KDP. The problem is, whilst the text comes out great, the photos don't look anywhere near as good as they do on my computer screen i.e., the pictures on my computer screen are very sharp and vivid, but the printed pictures in the books are shockingly poor as they're flat, dull, low definition, and nowhere near as sharp, and this is with all 5 printed copies from 5 different professional book printing companies. The pictures were taken with a quality DSLR camera, and as I said, the pictures are of very high clarity and definition, but the printed pictures don't look good - can you advise why that might be? Thanks.

I have done author signing events and I found them to be a lot of work, but I had fun. Now I admit I did some local promoting, and the store/library also did promotion too. I sold books and at the library I also did a talk. The only add I have is that having a giveaway helps. I also promoted my website for a free lead magnet too. I would do it again and as for sales - each event was about 20 books sold.
What did you give away please do tell?
@@KJ-zr2ko I was offering a bookmark with book name and my website on it. I did not do this next one but I was at a store having a signing going on, and I noticed that they had balloons for the kids. I thought this was very interesting as the kids came with their parents and the parents bought the books. Talk about a Lead Magnet (ha-ha). For my next signing, because I have written 3 books, I might offer a book giveaway of my ebook with a purchase of book. I'll give that some thought.

Hi Julie, payhip banned me out of the blue and when I enquired why, they refuse to give a reason. each and every book I offered on payhip I wrote myself word for word, that means it is normal high content ebooks. payhip seems to be a scam

Hm. I wonder if Amazon will ever get around to offering pre-sale paperback books to authors?
I believe we will see it before the year is done ... they miss out on a ton of sales by not offering it but more than that the volume of glitches we are seeing with presales on Ingram going into Amazon makes me feel like they are getting things set up for it. Who knows?! But I believe it's coming soon.

Hi Julie, LOVE your videos! I know how much work goes into them and I appreciate it. My manuscript is complete (minus the epilogue). My sticking point for promotion has to do with my book’s content. It’s a memoir and has adult and sensitive subject matter like educator abuse, trauma, grief. It feels odd promoting a difficult story like this one. Do you have any advice? Thank you for your help.
Hi Megan - I always go back to the reader and think about how they must be feeling right now when they don't know a book like yours exists. Tell them about your book is the very thing they need to not feel alone ... That said, I think it's important to let people know that some material could be triggering. That will help you identify the promotional opportunities and the ones that will not respond well to that material. We have done quite a few books with sensitive material and that approach works really well.
Great video! How important is it to have a newsletter for someone with a social media presence where you can inform readers of updates on your platform and when there are platforms like Buy Me a Coffee where you can even monetize the info you provide?
I still think a newsletter is the most important thing any author can build. Social media and any other site out there can shut down, close your account, and otherwise take your access away. A newsletter you control. Even with UA-cam, I am constantly inviting people to join my newsletter list. I even am giving my newest book away for free as a way to build my newsletter list vs letting everyone just be a connection on UA-cam because you just never know what will happen with a site you don't own.

Excellent advice and points to the need for a very well-maintained email list. If your friends and other contacts do not know about your book, you are missing out on potential sales.
Oh my gosh - a well maintained email list is the key! I just deleted 7,450 people from the Launch Letter last week to try to clean up our list!! It's so important to maintain that list.
